SUB-COMPACT CARS
Ford and Mazda have presented solutions for the Honda City and Toyota Vios cars at the Guangzhou Motor Show, China.
While the Mazda 2 saloon is showroom-ready, the Verve is still a concept car which, however, will enter production in China early next year. Both three-box bodystyles are based on the hatchback models.
Such a strategy could enable Ford and Mazda to go for a two-pronged attack in the Thai B-segment (sub-compact) market dominated by the City/Jazz and Vios/Yaris.
Last month, Ford and Mazda announced that they will jointly build a new B-segment car at their AutoAlliance factory in Rayong with an annual production of 100,000 units for both domestic and export markets.
This project, however, should not be confused with the Eco-car which is a separate issue.
