Mazda has developed a long-term program centred on enhancing the environmental performance of its products.
It believes improving the sustainability of society in this manner will lead to further growth. The lone bright spot within the Ford family, Mazda is certainly familiar with growth.
one that Mazda plans to tackle through a three-part approach:
- Reduce dependency on fossil fuel;
- Reduce CO2 production;
- Reduce exhaust and other emissions.
On the engine front, a new inline-four-cylinder engine will be introduced next year along with a new-generation rotary engine and a clean new diesel engine.
The gas engine will offer a 15- to 20-per-cent improvement in dynamic performance and a 20-per-cent reduction in fuel consumption. It will boast a raft of developments in such areas as direct injection, thermal efficiency and catalyst technology.
