The 2009 Mazda6 will be available with an all-new, Mazda-designed and developed MZR 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with six-speed manual or five-speed automatic, and the 3.7-litre V6 used in the 2008 CX-9, with six-speed automatic transmission.

Mazda launches all-new Atenza in Japan. It is known as the Mazda6 in North America and rest of the world.
In its second generation, the new Atenza uses a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with five- and six-speed automatic transmissions. The new model is larger than its predecessor, but weighs less due to increased use of high-tensile steel. To lower running costs, regular gasoline is now recommended for all model grades.
New design features include sharper fender edges, new front end design with larger grille and expanded lower intakes, new interior materials and six new colours.
Available as a sedan, Sport hatchback and Sport wagon, the new model is now officially on sale at all Mazda dealerships throughout Japan.

New Mazda SUV concept of the rear-wheel-drive crossover will displayed to public possibly next year at Paris Motor Show. Lightweight components, including high-tensile steel and smaller engines with higher outputs (read: new diesels and hopefully more turbocharged mills) should strike a balance between engaging the driver while keeping fuel-consumption and emissions in check.
